The annual election for positions on the 12 South Neighborhood Association Board of Directors will take place at our next monthly meeting, Monday, November 5th at 6:30pm. Terms are for 2 years.
There will be 4 positions on the board up for election this year. Board members still in term are Chris Cotton, Jon Gensler, and Nathan Hubbard.
We are accepting nominations for neighbors who are interested in serving the neighborhood with us, or nominate yourself by submitting a short paragraph that we can share with the neighborhood. Tell us who you are and why you want to serve on the board. Send your nominations to email@example.com by the end of the day on Sunday, October 28th. We’ll announce the candidates on Monday, October 29th.
Board of Directors membership is a great way to give back to your neighborhood! It’s hard work but rewarding. If you’ve never served on a board before, we encourage you to review the association bylaws (https://12south.org/faq) regarding board member responsibilities prior to submitting/agreeing to the nomination.
Anyone who lives in the neighborhood is eligible to vote in the election. You must be present at the meeting to vote. Please bring a form of proof that you live in the neighborhood – a driver’s license with your correct address, a bill with your name and address on it, etc.
Thanks. We look forward to your nominations!

This weekend’s tree planting initiative was a success! We planted 17 trees across the morning and afternoon. These are our little babies that we’ve happily given to you to nurture and grow over the years. They already look so fantastic in all of your yards…just think what they will look like 15 years from now! 🙂 We appreciate our neighbors wanting to help contribute to replacing the tree canopy that our neighborhood has seen reduced over the years.
Huge thanks to some very special neighbors, who joined us in grinding out 17 tree plantings in some very dry, rocky and tree-rooty earth yesterday. If you see Karen Vickers, Jarrad Vickers, Liane Moneta-Koehler, Donald Thompson, Chris Koch or David Hooper in the neighborhood, give them some love for the tremendous effort needed to get so many trees planted in one day.
Thanks again to our Gold Sponsor of this event, Sport Ortho Urgent Care. Without their support, this wouldn’t have been possible!
Special thanks to Sport Ortho Urgent Care, a Gold Sponsor for our Tree Planting Initiative this upcoming weekend! Like us, they share the value and need for more trees in 12 South, and were gracious enough to donate to the cause! Located at 1501 12th Ave South, you can find out more about this great neighborhood business at sportorthourgentcare.com.
Make sure to let them know you love the trees in 12 South too!
Big News! The Waverly Belmont PTO wants to enrich the play space at Waverly Belmont Elementary! They have designed a Natural Playground and outdoor classroom to be installed this spring/summer! To help fund this huge undertaking they are throwing a Spring Fundraiser! They have worked with Gardens of Babylon (a landscape architectural firm) to come up with a design and have had it approved by Principal Halliburton and MNPS. It will include a Sound Garden, tall grass maze, balance beam/climbing structure, and natural play structure with a tunnel, slide and climbing wall. Now it is time to pay for it! Help raise the funds to enrich our children’s play area. We want to promote a healthy lifestyle to our students and the community. Please help us reach our fundraising goal by supporting our Bulldog Bolt.

The 12 South Neighborhood Association wanted to pass along this information about the new Waverly-Belmont Conservation Zoning Overlay from Robin Zeigler at the Metro Historic Zoning Commission. If you have any questions about the overlay, we encourage you to get in touch with Robin.
Dear Waverly-Belmont Neighborhood:
Congratulations on your Neighborhood Conservation Zoning Overlay! We encourage you to provide the following resources to your neighbors via your newsletter, listserv and/or website.
Anyone can subscribe to receive monthly notice of when the MHZC agenda is posted online by visiting https://public.govdelivery.com/accoun…/TNNASH/subscriber/new. Typically signs are only posted if the property is being rezoned so the best way for you to know what is going on in their neighborhood is to sign up for the agenda notification.
Preservation Permit applications can be found at http://www.nashville.gov/…/Servic…/Preservation-Permits.aspx and the design guidelines are now at http://www.nashville.gov/…/Districts-and-Design-Guidelines.…. We highly recommend that you contact the historic zoning staff early in the planning stages of your project. We can provide feedback and recommendations for gaining approval before you spend money only finalizing your design.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure about work happening in your neighborhood. We only have one inspector so to some extent we rely on the neighborhoods to keep us informed.
I hope you will visit us at the Old House Fair, the first Saturday of every March at the Sevier Park Community Center. It’s a terrific resource for people who are looking to maintain, revamp or restore their old home. Visit www.OldHouseFair.org for more information about the event and our exhibitors.
Looking forward to working with you all.
